SWIM LESSONS 2018
Everyone in the Pool

We offer several swim lesson programs throughout the summer season.  Each child is offered one session of lessons at no cost. Swim classes last approximately 45 minutes and occur 10:15 am and 11:00 am, before the pool officially opens.

Sign up for all sessions will be taken at the club.

Fort Island Swim Club instructors are WSI (Water safety instructors) certified through the Red Cross.

Session One :

June 18th - June 29th

Session Two :

 July 9th - July 20th

Session Three :

July 23rd - August 3rd ( If needed)

The first  session of swim lessons is complete, and we are gearing up for session 2!

Session 2 will begin on Monday, July 9th and run each week day until Friday, July 20th. We have added some more changes such as a second parent-child class. This is to allow parents of multiple children to be in the water at the same time as their child in a different level so they do not have to worry about supervising them. Also, the parent-child classes will now be offered 5 days a week. If a swimmer is under the age of 5, and has not passed the parent-child course, they will be required to participate in the parent-child class.

If a swimmer participated in the first session, there will be a $10 fee for participation in the second session. Please have cash or a check made out to Fort Island Swim Club ready on the first Monday of lessons. Again, the class sizes will be limited. We ask that only swimmers who can attend both weeks be signed up for lessons.

Non-members will have the ability to sign up for lessons. The fee for a non-member is $30. Spots will be made available to members first, and then non-members.

Below, you will find the link to sign-up for swim lessons. Please fill out a form for each swimmer. Please pay attention to the times that each lesson is offered. If you have any questions about which level a swimmer should be placed in, feel free to email me at fiscswimlessons@gmail.com. We look forward to teaching your children to swim!

Thank you,

Seth Koellner

We are extremely excited for this summer and we are especially looking forward to teaching swim lessons. Our first session of swim lessons begins on Monday, June 18th and continues until Friday, June 29th. This year we are excited to update our swim lesson structure in order to reflect the new curriculum set forth by the American Red Cross, the organization that trains us as lifeguards as well as Water Safety Instructors.

The first change is that we will be introducing parent-child swim classes. The American Red Cross has expressed that children under the age of 5 should not be enrolled in Level 1 due to their young age. Instead, parent-child swim lessons will provide a safer environment for children to get comfortable in the water and learn valuable water safety skills with one on one guidance from an instructor. These classes will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and will be held from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. We are asking that children under the age of 5 not be enrolled in any lesson other than the parent-child lessons and we thank you for your understanding.

The second change is that not every level will be offered each hour. This is in order to provide a more consistent teaching structure for our swimmers. Also, the American Red Cross has recommended that lessons for beginner levels be shortened to 30 minutes so swimmers do not get too cold or lose interest. Please pay attention to the times listed next to each level on the sign-up sheet.

Finally, we will be capping attendance on each lesson this year except for the parent-child classes. We have felt that in recent years, the class sizes have grown so large that students are not getting enough personal attention. Each class will be open to twelve swimmers. Spots in each class will be filled on a first come, first served basis. We will also be offering a second session of swim lessons in July and we will have the opportunity for a third session in August if there is strong interest. You will find a link for the sign-up page at the bottom of this email for the first session of swim lessons. Please fill out a form for each individual swimmer.

We hope that these modifications to our lessons will allow us to provide a higher quality of swim lesson. Our main priority is safety and swim lessons are the best way to ensure that every swimmer at Fort Island Swim Club is safe in the water. If you have any questions, please feel free to email fiscswimlessons@gmail.com. Also, the lifeguards at the pool will be able to answer any questions you may have. Again, we are looking forward to a great summer!
